Marieke Leene's work explores the strange and often humorous contradictions of living in a world shaped by human made systems. Working across video, installation, performance and sound, she creates situations in which boundaries become unstable.
She is particularly interested in translation: how things
change when they move between worlds — from physical to digital,
from human to animal, from analogue to digital. In these moments of translation, something is
always lost, distorted, or unexpectedly revealed.
